體重不重要,有運動就可以!

Weight doesn't matter, Exercises do!

The research concludes that focusing on fitness rather than just weight loss could be more beneficial for long-term health outcomes.

A recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine reveals that physical fitness is more crucial for longevity than body weight. The research, analyzing data from nearly 400,000 people, found that fit individuals had similar mortality risks regardless of their BMI (Body Mass Index), while unfit people had 2-3 times higher risk of death regardless of their weight.

Key findings:

  • Fit overweight or obese individuals had lower death risks than unfit people with normal weight
  • VO2 max (measuring how well heart, lungs, and muscles work together) was used to determine fitness
  • Being physically fit provides health benefits even without weight changes
  • BMI alone is considered a flawed measure of health risk

The study emphasizes that aerobic fitness is a better indicator of overall health because it reflects:

  • Blood circulation efficiency
  • Muscle strength
  • Heart and lung effectiveness
  • Brain nutrient delivery

To improve aerobic fitness, experts recommend:

  • Starting with manageable goals (like 20-minute walks)
  • Maintaining consistency in physical activity
  • Aiming for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise weekly
  • Choosing movements that are feasible for your body

Study limitations include:

  • Lack of age-specific data analysis
  • Limited geographical representation (mainly North America and Europe)
  •  No consideration of duration of overweight/obesity status
